I wrote this years back when I discovered the Anti Racism Help line in Essen. The helpline still functions and it is a great resource for the fight against racism.

Have you ever faced such blatant racism and don't know where to turn for help?I use to feel like such a victim, shaken and despaired until an incident happened to me a couple of months ago that changed everything. I was abused over the phone. I posted about it on my face book page and the page of a friend and before you know it there were people coming from everywhere to support me.I tell you it moved my spirit. An amazing lady who I didn't know prior to this incident, her name is Bianca took up the fight for me contacted the people let them know their conduct was appalling and checked up on me after the incident. After all this there was something she said that turn up the courage in my heart. I am paraphrasing but she let me know that we have to speak up for ourselves and that one should never be allowed to treat us this way.

She did two things for me that day she let me know my voice was valid that encouraged me to persevere and push out my site that had been in in the back burner for sometime. She also let me know that there are people out there that are willing to help you fight against racism and abuse. I had been so jaded about that and I just took it that racism was one of the prices I pay for being black in Deutschland.

But nooooooo! It is not. Ever since the incident I have found many places one can go to report and fight racism one of which is The Intercultural Solidarity Center / Anti-Racism Telephone Essen. Ii was founded in March 1994. It is an independent institution of Essen citizens who are active against racist fascist developments and for the equal coexistence of different cultures. It's office is in with the 'anti-racism telephone' is in Steuben Str. 49, 45138 Essen It organizes events, participates in activities of groups and institutions with comparable approaches and links them. The regular activity meeting takes place on the Monday evening and is open to the public. Invited are also people who want to contribute with their own initiatives to the described objective. This is what their flyer saysThe staff members of the ANTI-RACISM TELEPHONE volunteer their time to support the interests of people suffering from racial discrimination. They also work for racism and right-wing radicalism. They want to contribute to the dialogue between the different cultures in Essen.
